Sponsoring 19 sports is extemely difficult to sustain at the G5 level. Look at a few of our conference mates and their lower number of sponsored sports.

From the press release:

Quote:With the change, ODU will sponsor 16 NCAA sports, nine for women and seven for men, in addition to the non-NCAA sport of women's and coed sailing. This includes women's volleyball, which will begin its first season at ODU in the fall. NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision programs are required to sponsor at least 16 sports.

So unless you're angling to get ODU to drop to FCS or D2, you're not going to lose any other sports. And we've already established that at least 20 G5 schools have at least 19 teams, which ODU won't reach even with volleyball coming online, so I'm not sure what you're looking for.

Sailing is a sport and ODU does incur a cost to sustain it. Doesn't make a dime off it.

ODU sponsors 18 sports including sailing regardless of affiliation.
