CDC
Who would have guessed a pandemic with a ~1% mortality rate is taken much more seriously than a pandemic with a 0.001-0.007% mortality rate.
MATH IS HARD.
It really is hard when you don't have a value for your denominator.
We'll be able to Monday morning quarterback Trump in about 2 years, just like we can Obama regarding H1N1. It is kind of remarkable to compare the press response during the illness, when the true scope is yet to be known.
By the way, the 0.001-0.007 is the % of world population that died. That is different and not comparable to a mortality rate of individuals who actually contracted a disease (unless your assertion is that 1% of the world population will die from Wuhan virus).
EPIDEMIOLOGY IS HARD
Eagle pointed out my error.
My point was that it appears that Covid-19 has a much higher mortality rate than the 2009 H1N1 outbreak. That's part of the reason why Obama got less criticism for his inaction when compared with Trump.
