A couple to start:

Fact that Rice is the only Div 1 school to have played Alabama three times without a loss. And
The athletic career of Fred Wolcott, who may have been the best all round athlete ever at Rice. He broke Jesse Owens records for example.
Also TE Robert Hubble’s 50+ yd field goal as a then Rice record and his only college attempt.
