Siena had a chance to get him last season when Jamion Christian left unexpectedly. I think they wanted somebody a little higher-character, especially after taking having taken a risk on Jimmy Patsos that didn’t pan out. Kept it in-house by promoting the assistant head coach, a Siena alum and local AAU product. Seemed to work so far, won the regular season before the tourney was canceled. We might come to kick ourselves if Pitino can still win at Iona. It’s a true battle of good against evil.

Pitino will be there, absolute max, three or four seasons. I understand why Iona would shrug and roll the dice with him, but I don't think not hiring him is the kind of decision that could haunt anyone in the MAAC as a long-term thing. This is image rehab before he goes somewhere where he can feel like he retired on his own terms.
