As a society, we're expecting basically the same thing from our professional athletes and our college athletes. The absurdity has really become apparent this summer and fall.

With regard to safety in athletic competition, I don't think it's absurd.

I don't disagree in regard to safety, obviously. It should be as safe or safer than professional sports. But even with that, we're asking unpaid college athletes to enter a bubble that they possibly won't be able to leave for weeks (and certainly with many fewer things to do than, say, the NBA or WNBA bubble)?

We're treating them like professionals. They should be compensated.
