In 2017, Valpo took Wichita's spot. UIC was metioned as another candidate as the MVC seemed focused on the Chicago area. Valpo allowed the private public balance to be even

If Murray is still the public candidate, then the private candidate options are:
Belmont
Lipscomb
Bellarmine
Detroit
Oral Roberts

St. Louis has made it abundantly clear they are not interested.

Dayton hasn't said so publicly, but they are probably like St. Louis.

I guess you could include Robert Morris too, would really stretch the footprint, and they have football.

UMKC, UIC, and Northern Kentucky would be public options if the balance didn't have to be even. I guess UTA should be mentioned too

Dayton, like SLU, wants to be in an East Coast focused conference. When Xavier and Butler left the other A10 presidents informed Dayton and SLU that they would no longer consider adding members form the Midwest. They also told them that there would be no hard feelings if one or both decided to seek a new conference. They’re both still in the A10.
