Why are you so sure of that? This is the brainchild (apparently) of the commissioner of the Atlantic Sun, which is the bottom of the Division I food chain. This is a harsh statement, but nobody joins the A-Suck because they want to. They join because they have to. The A-Sun has taken in 13 members this century, and only 2 of them (Liberty and ETSU) had a Division I conference affiliation when they joined the ASUN. NJIT was an independent desperate for any conference invite the could get. Liberty is a pariah whom you're already trying to get rid of (the most likely explanation for this apparently harebrained scheme). Belmont was a Division I independent. I'm not sure what East Tennessee State's story was (just from checking wikipedia). Everybody else joined the ASUN because it was their ticket to
Division I.

That's reasonable, I'll assume your facts are right. Those schools aren't ASUN candidates because they aren't D-I candidates, except maybe for West Georgia.

You are looking at an area probably consisting of Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and maybe Kentucky.

So, if the ASUN expands, as part of the UAC plan or not, it's by inviting non-Division I schools to transition.
So, if this plan ever amounts to anything, it DOES mean the ASUN taking in a bunch of Division 2 (or NAIA?) callups.
