They're aiming to go to two conferences, that's the whole point of this plan.

ALL 10 of the ASUN members will be part of the "New" ASUN...

The UAC (United Athletic Conference) will be a football only FCS conference that will accommodate the ASUN members with FCS football + Big South football members because the Big South will drop football from the conference.

The ASUN FCS schools will automatically have a home in FBS if they decided they wanted to move to FBS. Basically locking in UNA and Kennesaw State to the ASUN IF FBS aspirations come.

As far as other sports, it will be a dramatically improved conference.

If that were the case then why not just have the Big South drop FCS football sponsorship and the CCSA pick it up like the MVFC does?

That's exactly what is happening, just in a different name. The CCSA will turn into the "new" ASUN for legal reasons I guess. The old ASUN will turn into the UAC and only sponsor football. It's a weird loophole

So in simple terms, the CCSA=football only FCS UAC
The new 20 school conference will be the ASUN by transfer of name. The new 10 members will come out of the Sun Belt and C-USA. Them plus Liberty is a 10 school FBS conference, add UConn and UMass as football only members for 12.

KSU and UNA will play football in the FCS UAC. But will have a FBS home if they decided to go that route. If that happens, you have the 14 (football) team FBS ASUN conference. Could turn to 16 quickly if UNF and FGCU go through with their football studies.
