It's not like they're unfamiliar with those programs in the MAC & who does Marshall really care about playing in C-USA anyway? At least they have a real rival in Ohio. I get Florida and Texas recruiting but it seems like Marshall fielded better teams back when they were in the MAC as well. Their immediate success after leaving 1-AA reminds me of App State's recent ascension. They won the MAC 5 out of 7 years and finished ranked 3 times.
I read somewhere that MAC members spend on average close to a million less a year less on travel than other G5 conferences.
If that is true I could see the point two MAC schools have been the G5 champ or Access Bowl pick .
I would pair them with NDSU a thirteen time champ with great support.
For NDSU its a pathway to the Access Bowl vs FCS title.
A half share in TV money plus one P5 money game a year covers cost.
The MAC could add a solid basketball program for a travel partner for NIU or Buffalo helping offset cost.
So Marshal and NDSU/ Milwaukee or a program close to Buffalo.
NDSU is not a flight risk and have a good olympic sports home.
That is why football only makes sense this time and ESPN loves them.
No school has their level of success at a lower division or name recognition. Good school also so that is not a problem.
So no complaints of lowering the bar for a football factory.
