The 2011 team had two top 20 recruits and you can easily argue that it had much better roster balance, given that Coleman and Black were both centers. That team struggled as this one has and you can't pin all of it on Pastner, nor can you pin a lot of it on Penny. That team lost badly a few times and only made the tournament by beating UTEP in the conference tournament.

Another thing that I have repeated many times over the years, is that the 2005 class was an anomaly, that has screwed up our expectations every season ever since then. Based on their rankings, that class performed much better than freshmen typically do. The more Dandridge shows improvement, the more the team will improve. Having a true big in the middle of the lane who is a threat with his back to the basket will be huge for us.

2005 was not an anomaly. Cal gets the best out of his players 90% of the time. I don’t think this team has improved yet. It is penny’s second year so I do think he will get better, but right now he is not coaching this team.
