Since I didn't see a thread about it, I took the liberty of starting one for the New Year of the 2019-20 season.

January 1

San Jose State 88, New Mexico 85---Coming in, the Lobos were 13-2 while the Spartans were just 4-10. Didn't see this one coming, even though it was played at SJSU.

UNLV 70, Utah State 53---The Runnin' Rebels have been fairly pedestrian and lackluster under first-year head coach T.J. Otzelberger, but they played like champions at home as they whipped the Aggies, defending Mountain West Champs and pre-season favorites. UNLV goes to 7-8; Utah State falls to 13-3.


January 2

SIU-Edwardsville 79, Belmont 69---The Bruins were 23 point favorites coming into this one, and justifiably so. The Cougars were 3-10 coming into the game and had just one win over Division 1 competition (a 2-point win against Incarnate Word). SIU-E put five players in double figures to spring the upset, making the crowd in Music City tone deaf in the process. Belmont goes to 9-5 with the loss.

UCLA 66, Washington 64---In Seattle, the Bruins surprised the Huskies. In late November, Seth Greenberg said under the right circumstances, Washington was a legitimate Final 4 team. Now, I love Seth. He's a good analyst, but when he made that comment, it took me 3 hours to find my eyeballs after they popped out of their sockets and rolled away from me on the floor. Washington drops to 10-4 with the loss. UCLA, home losers to the likes of Hofstra and Fullerton State, improved to 8-6.

Texas-Arlington 73, Arkansas State 52---The Mavericks and Red Wolves have scored some nice non-conference wins over the past few seasons, but UT-A is considerably down this year by comparison, at least record-wise. They went to Jonesboro just 4-9, but they put together a heck of a performance to post a 73-52 beating on their hosts. Arkansas State goes to 10-4. UT-Arlington is now 5-9.
