Are there enough non bball events in LA to justify a new 19k arena? I Know Ballmer has money to burn, but since he will have to finance it, I’m sure he’ll be looking for a decent ROI.

Phoenix has two pro arenas (one for Suns, one for Coyotes) and both stay busy year-round. LA could support three at least 19+ arenas without a problem.


One big draw is concerts. Since the advent of streaming/file sharing etc, most musicians make far more money in concerts than sales.

Add to that big events like Cirque du Soleil, etc and you have demand.

But LA already has Staples, the Forum and Anaheim Arena. Plus it’s Southern California so plenty of outdoor venues are viable options too. I’m sure Ballmer is planning to cut into someone’s pie, just trying to figure out who.
