It was very surprising, to say the least, that an FSU team with players born and bred in the Florida heat wilted in the second half vs Boise, while the Boise team from the cold northwest did not.

Still, we all know that the program was in poor shape now, the issue is whether WT should have had more time to turn it around. Firing him right now, in week 9, seems precipitous, unless FSU has come to terms with a name-brand winner like a Stoops that they want to install ASAP for recruiting crunch time. But if they haven't, and are just casting about right now making offers, then this smacks of the same impetuous decision making that got them here to begin with.

I disagree on these grounds...

If you don't have someone lined up then you need time to get your ducks in a row. Plenty of coaches are fired early these days simply so the AD and company can go about openly searching for someone without going behind someone's back more than necessary.

So what I contend is there was no reason to keep Taggart. They knew they were going to fire him so you might as well do it now and get ready for what's next.

I can see where someone might say he didn't have enough time. Part of the reason coaches don't get as much time as they used to is because of the money involved. In the old days, you might as well give a guy time to build a program. Now? You're paying him millions of dollars a year for his expertise. If he's not providing a return then you have to move on.

We have to remember a lot of this money comes from donations. That means people are voluntarily supporting their favorite program and they can stop anytime. If it was a simple profit/loss equation then maybe you look at things differently, but FSU's money stream is not guaranteed simply from ticket sales and TV money.

Honestly, I'm not sure why they hired him in the first place. His time at South Florida wasn't particularly spectacular. I get that he's from the region and knows how to recruit Florida. Well...a lot of coaches have worked in FL. What's so special about that?

He had one season at Oregon and I think he had 6 wins and let's not forget there were issues with the conditioning coach up there. That should have been a red flag.
