Neither league is a part of the P5 for various and obvious reasons. And never will be, which is fine. So, with the BE a P6 in men's hoops and the AAC (in my humble opinion) the clearly best G5 if you consider everything (football, men's hoops, baseball, endowments, academic budgets, athletic department budgets, locations, overall academics, etc.), both leagues are in a very good place.

The BE is one of the "Major 7" BB conferences, as is the AAC. If one is inclined to use "P" rather than "Major" in basketball, then the BE and AAC would both be described as "P7" conferences.

P5/P6 applies mostly to FB, and AAC is most widely viewed as a P6, or an aspiring P6 conference.

The AAC ranks ahead of the BE, both financially (in terms of revenue per school), and in most other respects, by virtue of being an all-sports conference. The only place where the BE has been ahead has been in the BB rankings.

There is no P6. Only 5 conferences have autobids to NY6 bowls and the AAC isn’t one. Is the AAC the best G5 conference? Yes.

Your phrase “aspiring” is more correct but wouldn’t all the G5 conference “aspire” to be a P conference?
