Sure the first few years of classwork are at the Fairborn campus but the med students perform their residency down at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, which is probably in a worse neighborhood than UC.

Full disclosure... I've worked for Miami Valley and it's parent for a good number of years. Wright State school of med students perform their residencies at all of the Dayton area hospitals of which Miami Valley happens to be the largest and the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the area. MV is also routinely one of the Top 100 hospitals in the US in a number of specialties which is a significant draw. The neighborhood has gone through a significant revitalization over the past 10+ years with Miami Valley and UD investing millions each.

With that said, with the exception of the Cleveland Clinic if my doc told me she chose WSU school of med over UC or OSU I would think they made a decent decision based on their specialty. It's like someone saying they chose DAAP over the a design school in Chicago or New York because Cincy's culture isn't the same as NY or Chitown. The neighborhood has very seldom proven to be a hindrance to recruiting... at least in the medical arena.

Likewise for UC, I think that if "all things are equal" UC's neighborhood or campus MAY be an issue but IMO all things are seldom equal. It's kind of like saying "It's not you, it's me" in a relationship. UCs biggest hurdles historically have been pace of play, league affiliation, P5 vs. non-P5 status etc. All this talk of neighborhoods and good vs. bad hasn't stopped UC from building a world ranked engineering, world ranked design, nationally ranked criminal justice, business and medical school programs so to use that as an reason (or excuse) for our sports teams doesn't seem real or genuine IMO. Just my 2 cents worth.
