Players are free game behind the line of scrimmage. It was a screen play and RB was behind the LOS so he can be tackled before the pass without a PI call.

It was a terrible decision. White saw he could not complete the pass and was trying to throw it away and for some reason instead of spiking it in front of the crowd where it could not caught he “threw it away” right into the middle of the crowd.

It was a terrible decision by White. It was also a terrible playcall though which seems lost. We're steamrolling them on the run. Why are we calling a middle screen??? That's right where they're going to be bringing pressure assuming another run. They're going to be keying on our RB, and so are likely to knock him down or be in the area of the pass. The thing they're least going to be defending against is some deep pass, which is the weakest part of the offense. The play there, 2nd and 2 from the OM 28, is to just keep pounding them with the run or run a play action pass, or at the verst least screen to the outside.
