Why is the solution of decession of the land and inhabitants back to Maryland insufficient?

That particular odd shaped quadrangle has really no specific claim to uniqueness or history of self-sovereignty over the last 244 years, why now?

I mean, there is as much reason to grant state sovereignty to Dallas and to Fort Worth as there is to DC. Yet DC holds the limelight for this.

If the issue is 'representation' (which I grant you exists), the repatriate the land back to Maryland. Insto presto solution all the way around.

Can you really not identify the difference between discussing statehood for DC as opposed to Dallas or Forth Worth?

What is the difference?

Other than two Senators, of course.

Yeah - that's the difference. The people of Dallas and Ft Worth are represented by Senators in the Senate. The people of DC are not.

Plus, the DC House representative has limited powers and is basically a figure head.

Representation is important, and it's rather silly to proffer that, legislatively speaking, DC residents and Dallas residents are similar. The difference should be rectified through statehood or granting them representation through the state of Maryland (or Virginia, but my understanding is Maryland would be the easier path).

But if DFW got their own senators, then Texas would have four. Just like if DC got their own, then effectively Maryland would have four. That punishes the rest of the country.

Tanq’s solution is fair, and allows DC residents to have Senators without punishing the rest of the county.
