I would be thrilled to have some independent group in the government (likely something within DOJ) looking at allegations of harassment and assault against individuals in all 3 branches of government. Include other ethics violations as well (like insider trading, campaign finance, etc.). I'm all for cleaning up government.

My problem with "independent" groups within government is that they tend to become dominated by career bureaucrats, who IMO are the basic problem, and who tend to lean one way politically. So I would be very concerned about possible bias in their actions. I don't have a solution to that, do you?

And as far as insider trading, my understanding is that's okay for congress critters. I think we need to have a law saying that no president or member of either house of congress, or their staffs, shall be exempt from any law that applies to the general public, nor shall they be entitled to any legal privileges not available to the general public.
