THIS. I'd also say practicing medicine is not the same. Impressive in some ways, but not the same.

Problem #1 in Government: too many lawyers holding office on both sides of the aisle.

There is a world of difference between holding a job and being the boss.

My grandson is a plumber. He works for a plumber. But only one of them is making payments on the truck. Only one of them is providing tools. Only one of them is paying the other one by the hour. Only one of them worries about paying for the workman's comp or filing the 941, or maintaining liability insurance, and filing tax returns, and doing it all within the limits of the cash flow.

Same for a lawyer in a law firm, or an accountant in an accounting firm, or an engineer in an engineering firm. If they aren't the managing partner or a senior executive, then they don't have the experience in meeting problems and planning that I want in an executive, especially a Chief Executive. I am not dazzled by lists of offices held - I want to know what they have DONE.

I know some of our politicians spent some time practicing law. I think they were more like my grandson than like his boss.
