I associate Red/Blue with electoral maps in the US. I'm too young to immediately associate red with communism. I get it now, but at the time I read the initial comment and Tanq's followup pun, I was just confused. I give Tanq a B+. Not the kind of thing that would make me laugh, but a clever effort.

You are too young to have heard of Red Square? the Red scare? pinkos? Never seen this movie?
