My son is in Tokyo, so Japan would be one option. But I really don't speak the language, so there are negatives there as well.

There really isn't anywhere with the personal and financial freedoms that I would like, but if I can't get them here either, then there is no reason to stay.

I might just go settle in one of those beachfront towns that the international living magazines are always talking about in places like Panama or Costa Rice or Ecuador, where you can live well on $3K/month. I'm going to have a lot more coming in from retirement, SS, and 401k's, so I could home based there and travel quite a bit. I haven't really done as much of South America or the South Pacific as I like, so those would be good bases from which to explore that part of the world.

Europe might work as well. I really love the Algarve, and you can play golf 12 months out of the year (I have in December and January). And I had the best piece of fish I have ever eaten in a waterfront cafe in Vilamoura.

I'm pretty much resigned to living in a place with less freedoms than we enjoy now. But if we lose them here, might as well try something different.
