Quote:"The winner is a movie from South Korea. What the hell was that all about? We’ve got enough problems with South Korea, with trade,” the president continued. “And after all that, they give them best movie of the year?”

I haven't seen them all, mainly because the story lines of several of them are of zero interest to me. The Irishman is okay, but not Oscar material IMO. The economic change to which I referred is that films are pretty much going to be made about issues that actors are passionate about, not abut well-written scripts that tell interesting stories. And given the political crapshow that is the award ceremony every year, that means most of them are going to be about things that I don't care to see. I'd rather watch old favorites for the nth time than see any of the new stuff.

Trade issues have nothing to do with it. That's just one way Trump stirs up his crowd. I don't like it, but I don't dislike it as much as I dislike anything the democrats say.

Your criticisms of all the pictures nominates sounds like a talking point, rather than an actual analysis of the films.

While some of these films, and all films, focus on pet issues, a number of the nominated films didn't really touch on socially-divisive social issues in the way Parasite does. A number weren't overtly, or likely even implicitly, issues driven - 1917 was about WWI, Marriage Story was a very well-written look at a dissolving marriage, and Ford vs Ferrari was about Ford Motor Company trying to win Le Mans.

And Trump just wants to stirup crowds with a thinly veiled xenophobic dig at the producers/director of the Best Picture nod. Not sure why your first reaction when that is pointed out, is to try to provide cover for his remarks. But at least you're willing to acknowledge that Trump is just stirring up the crowd with his bluster.
