Liberals hated the media during the first 5 years of W. Bush because they felt the media essentially related the Bush Administration during the march to war in Iraq, and took way way too long to start more neutral reporting on the war. The liberals hated the way CNN covered basically every Trump rally during the Republican primaries, giving him tens of millions of dollars in free press. The liberals hate The NY Times editors and headline writers for their breathless and non-stop coverage of “but her emails” throughout the campaign.

So if the liberals hate the media and the conservatives hate the media, the media isn’t failing completely. Or maybe they are failing both sides, rather than succeeding. Regardless, for most journalists, I disagree with you. I think the majority of journalists do a neutral enough job of reporting facts. Feel free to have your own opinion, but I don’t see you changing my opinion and I am not even going to bother with your opinion.

So do you think the press should not have covered the Trump rallies? Do you think all rallies of all candidates should be off limits?

What I remember is comments of how they covered the rallies. Not friendly, not positive.

You are right, nobody is going to change anybody's mind. Over the years, I have changed slightly on a couple of issues due to listening to arguments here, but the direction of my movement is to the right.
