Junior Libero Anna Weissmann took home CAA Defensive Player of the Year honors this week. Congrats Anna!

Weissmann Takes CAA Honors

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Junior libero Anna Weissmann was named Defensive Player of the Week by the Colonial Athletic Association after helping UNCW to open with a 3-0 record and win the Hampton Inns Invitational last weekend at Hanover Hall.

"Anna played very consistent all weekend, both defensively and in our serve receive," said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek. "She plays with a ton of passion and works hard every day in the gym, so I'm proud her hard work has earned her the first defensive award of the season."

Weissmann, who moved into the starting role at libero this season, averaged 4.6 digs per set, including a career-high 20 in a season-opening four-set win over North Florida. In the tournament finale, she totaled 18 digs as UNCW swept Duquesne for the tournament title.
