Childers also threw two INTs yesterday during 7-on-7s on back-to-back passes.

There is a quote directly from the OC stating that Bowers has been the quickest to pick up the Offense.

Nothing I've read has me changing my mind as to who I believe will end up the starter.

GO NIU!

Beat Utah.

Where did you see this quote? I’m rooting for Bowers because it means an improvement if he gets the job and I want a deep threat. Everything I read is neck-and-neck with Bowers having a nice deep ball but both showing good and having mistakes too. Overall it seems Childers the smallest of margins getting the first snaps

You were the first person to post on the thread where I posted the quote, after I posted it. Did you not see it then?

Here it is:

Quote:During practice, Bowers has showcased a steady pocket presence and a strength of throwing the ball down the middle of the field and between the hashes and on deep routes toward the sidelines.

Offensive coordinator Eric Eidsness said he has liked what he's seen from Bowers mentally.

He’s picked stuff up a lot faster than they have, but he’s still learning every day," Eidsness said. "You learn in the summer, but when you start facing a real defense, not just 7 on 7, it’s different. You’ve got to handle protection checks, things like that. He’s played a lot of football. He knows how to play the game."

Happy times.

As to Childers getting the first snaps, I think that is mostly out of etiquette or respect as the veteran incumbent not necessarily an indicator of who is leading the battle. But that's just my take on it.

GO NIU!

Beat Utah.

But how do you keep giving him first team snaps if the guy behind you is leading the competition? Wouldn’t you want your eventual starting QB working with the first team? Why beat around the bush? That’s why I am thinking the competition is still very close and by default Childers is winning due to previous experience with the team.

I'm not necessarily saying it isn't close but it is inaccurate to say that the QB taking the reps second in the rotation isn't "working with the first team" as they are essentially splitting time equally.

Since the system, playbook, everything is new it is important that both get time with the first team so it isn't odd, to me, that the veteran goes first out of respect/etiquette/optics. If they are getting equal time, it doesn't really matter who goes first. Again, just my take.
