RE: Dudley: Spencer Brown energizes offense in UAB’s 1st scrimmage
Coach Clark's scheme seems to build a strong team for the future by providing the starters with strong backups who will play extensively in the future. The 4-game redshirt rule been prominent in this. He's been able to build strong secondary players(future starters) who might be almost as good as the starters but could be starters in the future and have an extra redshirt year to be such. There have been so many which is why this year's team isn't what folks outside of UAB realize what could be. A case in point is be the WR Watkins. He was getting good playing time early last season but we had seniors who were as good. So his contribution would have been in a diminished secondary role. He took a redshirt and is on par to (potentially) be a star of UAB for the next two years rather than one. Same with another WR Myron Mitchell. I see Rajae Johnson as the same. Playing 4 games this season, getting a redshirt and being available to UAB as a 3-year star(ter) beginning in 2020.
