Each Power 5 Champion is an AQ.

The highest ranked G5 Champion is an AQ.

The remaining two at-large seeds go to the highest ranked teams not already in as an AQ.

After the 8 team field is set, they are seeded by the CFB Playoff Committee for match-ups

If this was implemented last year, the 8-team playoff would've consisted of these teams (in no particular order):

Alabama (SEC Champs)
Clemson (ACC Champs)
Oklahoma (B12 Champs)
Ohio State (B10 Champs)
Washington (PAC12 Champs)
UCF (Highest ranked G5 Champion)
Notre Dame (highest ranked team not already in as an AQ)
Georgia (2nd highest ranked team not already in as an AQ - the last team in)

And under this scenario, you would've probably have seen these pods/match-ups:

1. Alabama vs. 8. Washington
4. Ohio State vs. 5. Notre Dame

2. Clemson vs. 7. UCF
3. Oklahoma vs. 6. Georgia

What do you think?

This is what I've been clamoring for and is a perfect continuation of the current 4 team / NY6 model. The G5 NY6 slot would become a CFP slot. If there is an upset in the CCG of any P5 conference, the one being upset most likely would still make the 8-team playoff as one of the two at-large (depending on who they lost to and their previous record), if they fell too far, well, tough luck, should've won the CCG, and someone else (from their conference or other conference) will end up being one of the two at-large. This is the most equitable and fair setup which will placate the P5 as well as the G5. It would also likely convince BYU to join a conference as they would have little to no shot making the CFP as one of the two at-large (similar to where they are now).

With regards to utilizing the actual NY6 bowls for the expanded 8-team CFP, would you make the Rose and Sugar Bowl permanent fixtures in the structure? Hosted by the highest ranked PAC/B1G or SEC/B12 team? Rotate the Orange/Cotton and Peach/Fiesta every other year?

You would be asking to limit the CFP Semi-Finals to 4 bowl games rather than 6 bowl games (as it is now). I think the 6 game rotation it is currently works just fine, even if it trumps the traditional New Years Day matchups of Rose Bowl or Sugar Bowl every 3rd yr.
