I'm watching my other favorite underdog, in the University of Hawaii. They're a pretty decent team, with an entertaining offense, and they regularly go to Bowls. Yesterday they played a PAC 12 team in Arizona at home, and I would wager to say that Aloha stadium was probably at 20% capacity. The stadium is centrally located in the center of the island and tickets aren't expensive. When I was a kid, that stadium used to be at 80% capacity, no matter who they played. It was a big deal on the island for a Bows' game. Heck, they put up yards and points on Arizona and even won. I wonder what gives?
Hawai’i drew 49k, 50k, & 50k its last 3 games in 2007.
With an exciting team returning a lot, ~10k watched the Rainbow Warriors take down a PAC flagship. Perfect weather and $99 season tix up high on the 50.
Where did their fan base go?
The terrible Norm Chow years still ring through. Many of my family and friends still don't think they're any good or worth watching. But I think they're an exciting team. Who knows? Population on the island has gone up and they don't have any pro teams...so idk?
