North:

Penn State
Pitt
West Virginia
Syracuse
Rutgers
Boston College

South:

Miami
Florida State
South Carolina
Virginia Tech
Louisville
Cincinnati

I have hard time thinking about unrealistic realignment scenarios, but something like this could have actually happened in the early '90s if things had played out right. Outside of Penn State, Florida State, and South Carolina, all of the above schools were in the Big East at one point and many of them are now in the ACC, where I feel we belong currently. Another alternate theory I would be happy with is if the Big East had started with 12 instead of 8, which would maybe still be alive today:

North:

Temple
Pitt
West Virginia
Syracuse
Rutgers
Boston College

South:

Miami
Memphis
East Carolina
Virginia Tech
Louisville
Cincinnati

IF We were in the same conference as Miami Florida, would we even place a defensive player on Nyssier Brooks?
05-stirthepot just sayin' :)
