Correct, it's something between the best mid-major conferences (A-10, MWC, etc.) and the Power/Major conferences right now (and it's been on the rise in the last year)

I've referenced this before, but it illustrates that point pretty well. The American is smack dab in the middle. (a few years ago it was much closer to the A-10, but Memphis, Houston, and UConn have pulled it up recently)

And I agree the basketball is trending up, but UConn leaving will make it more difficult to maintain.
