I never understood the Tulsa and Tulane additions. ECU when they win will lead the league in football attendance. Tulsa always has decent teams but zero fan support while Tulane is even worse.

I am all in either with VCU, Dayton, and Marshall or going full west with BYU, Boise State, Colorado State, SDSU, and Gonzaga.

Conference needs to go big, hurt at least one conference under it, and add programs that have fans. Either rebuild the east with a basketball focus or go get the best brand out west. Doing nothing is dumb, taking projects is dumb, taking schools with no fan support is dumb.

I still think ECU is a horrible add. The name is small time. Yeah, 'when they win' they have 50k a game for fb but their hoops prestige is low minor. I would kick them out first. Tulsa second and Tulane third.

Tulsa has at least done somethings in football and hoops historically and Tulane gets you a great market, the 'smart school' in the conference, and they have some national name recognition.

ECU is like have UNC-Greensboro or Norfolk state in the conference, name wise.


Don't get me wrong...I wish all three were kicked out.

A lot of folks in the P5 conferences think Cincy is small-time because the school has a city name and because it's not a land-grant, state flagship -- like UConn, for instance. Shakespeare (Romeo and Juliet) knew that "a rose by any other name would smell as sweet," but some folks think changing UC's name would somehow make us smell sweeter. Should we do that to appease those idiots? Hell no.

Both Tulane and Tulsa are highly selective and have enviable academics. They're good company even if their athletics don't always measure up (as if UC's athletics always measure up). As W. Edwards Deming liked to point out, half of every cohort is, by definition, below average. Kick out the schools you don't think are worthy, and one of the remaining institutions is suddenly going to occupy the bottom rung and several others are going to be below average. Keep trimming off the seemingly deficient bottom, and pretty soon there's nothing left.

The AAC is what it is. As long as we're in it, let's strive to elevate all of the members no matter their names or the current status of their coaching prowess. Making them look better makes us look better.

What the Hell is so important about being a "land grant" institution? UC was a college when UConn was a cow pasture. What is a "flagship"
institution?

It's not at all important. It's just stupid perception stuff. Being a "directional" or "city" school has never hurt USC and UCLA.
