I was told explicitly by a person in the know that the offer was pulled because it was determined that Burke was not the best fit.

That's a reasonable enough response. I've received recruiting information this off season from someone close to the team and would not want to divulge my source on it either, so I can understand the way you put that.

I get that and it may be true, but I don't know this guy or whether the info is legit. Would love to have a trustworthy and inquisitive media. All I can do is speculate... and people complain about speculation.

I don't know CalODUFan personally either. What was important to me and made his statement more believable than the others was the fact that he told how he knew that information. Occasionally I am in contact with one of the coaches and they share some information with me that has not been made public. I never want to give the name of the one that confided in me. There are one or two others who post here that routinely make statements that they could only know if someone very close to the ones making decisions for the team had confided in them, yet they never state how they could know that, even when asked specifically about it.

Can't speak for anyone else, but I don't have any problem with speculation, especially when it is presented that way. It is noting more than giving an opinion and that is a big part of what message boards are about. I do have an issue when people attempt to pass their speculation or their generalized comments off as being facts when it is pretty clear that they are more likely just their opinions.

I agree with your thoughts about the media. For many reasons, these are tough times for newsprint media and that is primarily where the region has gotten ODU basketball news in the past. The Virginian Pilot newspaper is a shell of what it once was, and the Ledger Star newspaper closed down years ago.
