The knowledgable Big Ten fan understands the significant increase in revenue, partially attributed to realignment, results in more experienced and proven coaching staffs, bigger and better athletic facilities, larger recruiting budgets and everything that goes into developing competitive athletic programs. Winning and success is not stationary. Just because Rutgers loses in football today as an example doesn't make that a permanent fixture. Ask the Northwestern fan who sat through many seasons of losing football.

Being in Big Ten country, I think Maryland has felt the most unnatural as part of the conference, even more so than Rutgers, but Nebraska is a perfect fit for the conference's culture, so it balances out and keeps the conference from shifting too far east.
