Well, yeah, sure, Columbus' growth ranks higher if you count by actual numbers of people moving in, rather than by the percentage growth rate. Sure, the Columbus MSA added about 200,000 people between 2010 and 2018, compared to about 37,000 for the Fargo MSA ...
... but what's important for the economics of college sports is that the Fargo MSA grew by over 16% in that period, while the Columbus MSA grew by under 11%.

After all, if the numbers who moved in were more important, you would be able to sort the Wikipedia list of MSA populations by growth in numbers. Since you can only sort it by percentage growth, that proves that percentage is the only growth that matters, QED.
