A confluence about everything that's ugly about college athletics. From a curious candidate list leaking, to Nebraska's Perlman and Osborn antics with the Big XII, while probably never off the phone with Penn State's Graham Spanier and Commissioner Delany, to the school then taking a share payout, only the watch Maryland get a sweetheart deal. Oh, and don't forget Big Ten school leaders joining the mob to kick UNL out of the AAU.

I've always thought one of the Big Ten presidents or conference office administrators leaked the list intentionally because they were not thrilled with their candidate pool. And I've always believed that Nebraska had such tunnel-vision about what it was doing that it never probably did bother to contact the PAC offices or SEC to at least inquire what their value would be.

And poor Missouri. Poor Rutgers, too, until they got a second chance.

I know the big figures look impressive. Who would honestly know what a different school or two would have done for the bottom line. Nobody does.

Nebraska got the worst deal of anyone. In $ terms, Rutgers is worse, but they are getting vastly more than before. Nebraska had bargaining power and didn't use it. Colorado, Texas A&M and Missouri got virtually full membership in their new conferences.
You are correct with everything you said, bullet.

The way I see it though, if I was Alabama, Florida, Georgia etc... I would actually be a bit pissed the new guys come right in and make as much as me. Yes they may increase future profits, but, they did nothing for the current success of the conference at the point of joining it.

Just my opinion!
Generally speaking, sticking it to the new guys and putting them at a competitive disadvantage is not a good way to aid expansion. That’s why the acc, sec, and pac gave full shares to new members right away. The b1g had to phase Nebraska in somewhat, because they didn’t open their tv deal when they expanded, and only had the new CCG revenue added, plus had to buy into the network. When hey added Md and Rut, they essentially had to buy into the B1G network, as the original 11 teams all equally shared 51% ownership. The sec, acc, and pac all received increased revenue when they expanded, so it was reasonable to share.

The big xii had no reason to phase in tcu and wvu other than greed. Not only did they still make the same tv revenue, and collect exit fees from four teams, they actually for a while were paid for 12 teams and a title game when they only had ten teams no CCG. Yet they STILL strong armed wvu and tcu for no reason. Man remember at one time when they promised to give up money to ensure Texas, Oklahoma, and aTm all got $20 million per year?
