RE: What if ACC expansion had gone according to plan?
We've drifted a long way from VT vs Syracuse as an ACC school in 2004-2005 but I'll weigh in on the Texas conundrum.

I think the SEC wise to settle on Texas and Texas Tech for its 16 members.

It's the easiest way to get Texas on board. Oklahoma and Kansas can go to the Big Ten.

The 6 remaining Big 12 schools can rebuild with 4-6 AAC schools Houston, Cincy, UCF, and USF would be my first 4 picks. Memphis is my 5th, after that it's SMU or Tulane.

Texas can use 2 for 1s with Baylor, TCU, Rice, SMU, and Houston in their OOC schedule to maintain their Texas heavy schedule.

Texas also gets a tactical win against Oklahoma--who gets cut out of Texas recruiting. Texas could even end the RRR and instead play Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl during the state fair if they wanted to.

Arkansas, A&M, LSU, Tech, Ole Miss, Miss St, and Missouri as annual games is pretty attractive.
