University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, in Belton. They started football in the late 1990s, not long after the school started admitting men, and were almost immediately competitive. The Crusaders have won two of the last four NCAA Division III national championships.

This is an understatement. Making UMHB look ordinary, after two years of varsity play the Sharks have a lifetime record of 31-1, the only loss coming in the 2018 Class 5A Division II state championship game to Highland Park. Meanwhile, the high school I attended, like Shadow Creek also in the Alvin ISD, just finished its second consecutive winless season, suffering seven shutouts and being outscored on the season 405 to 36 - and people wonder why I consider the Rice football program to be an upgrade from high school....
