Dominate guards make the difference
(02-23-2019 01:37 AM)billthebighawksfan Wrote:  I've seen this play out many a time and the team with the best guards win most of the time. Look at the CAA right now, Hofstra has one of the best scorers in the NCAA with Wright Fortman and they are on top, NE has a top guy in Pusica and C of C has another guy in Riller that kills it each night.

The bottom line is that if you have a "killer" shooter/scorer, you have an advantage. That's called an identity. UNCW has to get that guy or 2 that will step up.

Guys, it's always been this way. We had Blizzard, Goldsberry and Carter, then we had Talley, Ingram and Bryce plus Flemmings for 2 more CAA titles. If you have dominate guards/wings, you're going to win. And that really matters on the road! That's been the issue with this younger team IMHO.

Yes, defense is crucial and we need to meet metric standards such as deflections and being in position. That's important. Until an identity and roles are established for guys, it's tough. Perhaps that's being established we will see, but may have to be patient.

CJ and Flemings played the 3 95% of the time not guard
