Yeah, wouldn’t want to strangle that ISU MBB program and its NET ranking of 202. Wouldn’t want to be more like NIU’s ranking of 151.

I do think it’s beneficial in some respects to be in the MVC. SIU, Bradley, Loyola and WIU for football offer regional rivalries and fans travel to each others’ games, students have friends who went to each others’ schools. But FCS football sucks unless you’re NDSU and winning national championships 5x in a row. The greatest moment in ISU football was a loss on ESPN2 in Frisco TX and that NW win they keep touting is literally their only P5 win in history IIRC. Not worth it.

If you think NIU basketball is even close to ISU basketball, I will just go ahead and laugh as you right now.

Is NIU getting their butts kicked by UAB in some obscure bowl game really worth having their other athletic programs in such poor shape? Worth having their academics continue to drop? No offense, but I will take the ISU approach to building a university and athletic program.

You’d trade it all to be FBS in football. Let’s face it, there are have and have-nots in college athletics. That begins and ends with being FCS or FBS. It’s like having a AAA baseball team who could beat the Orioles. You wanna play for Baltimore or the Wichita nanny goats or whatever? Football is king and if you’re in the minors you don’t matter. Where does one even watch ISU(not Iowa state) football on TV?
