So what? I'm sure there was a player or two that disliked Novak and Kill too. The difference is Carey was not the favorite by a long shot by more than just one guy on the team. He won games. Ok. NIU football under Carey was not exciting or fun to watch, he had some successes and failures which there's no need to re-hash because its been beaten to death 50 million times already. Bottom line is I'm ready for a new era of NIU football.

People say players disliked Carey because they (you) didn’t like him. He was no different than any other coach in the sense there were players who loved him (Levon, JL6) and players who hated him.

No, I'm saying the players disliked Carey because of what they directly said about him. I know its hard to hear something about your hero that tarnishes his reputation, since I'm sure you're in mourning right now. Maybe you can start a gofundme for a Carey statue to assuage your bereavement. Don't worry, NIU football will be okay without him.

And I’m saying every coach who has ever coached football ever has players who will say negative things about them. You get 90 18-22 year olds together and odds are not everyone is going to like you.

I agree that every coach in every sport has players that don't like them. Even the great ones like Saban, Urban Meyer, Coach K, and John Wooden. But there are coaches that can relate to and inspire a larger percentage of their players to perform at a higher level. I have had great and terrible coaches and managers, and the teams with the great leaders have always outperformed the bad ones. It comes down to respect, trust, and also personality. If I like a manager and/or coach, I will do more to earn his respect and work harder for him and the success of the team. It remains to be seen if Hammock will do better than Carey in wins and losses. I don't think Carey is a bad guy and it might be he is just not good in front of the camera, but I have seen enough of him to know he is not a person that would inspire me to be a better player or employee. And if I was a player looking at schools as a junior or senior, I would be much more excited about Hammock than Carey.
