The least accountable segments of government are the judiciary (by design) and the administrative state (by decades of intellectual forfeit). One of the hallmarks of "progressive" thinking over the past century has been to elevate these two least-accountable segments to the role of primary policymakers. (This is also one of the most anti-democratic trends of US history, but I repeat myself.)

If the Supreme Court succeeds in restoring those segments of government to their proper roles of genuine adjudication and genuine administration, it will have won one of the greatest victories for liberty, democracy, and the rule of law that currently living Americans have seen or will see in their lifetimes.

Unfortunately, as we saw last week, the so-called "progressives" (with more than a few smugly blinkered academicians leading the way) will fight against such a victory every step of the way, using every tool of distortion, sophistry, demonization, and emotional frothing in their toolbox. Fortunately, they are not omnipotent, and thus there is hope.
