You have to agree that Sotomayor's conduct is at least equivalent to Thomas'. She received a $10000 check from Penguin on the same day she received paperwork on a case involving Penguin, from which she did not recuse himself. OK with that, but not with Thomas recusing himself??

Both are unacceptable. Sotomayor's is probably worse as the conflict is so stunningly obvious.

Yet Thomas and Gorsuch get 100x the media coverage that Sotomayor does. The game is rigged as far as media coverage of Washington politics goes.

There are checks and balances. The check on SCOTUS is advice and consent of the Senate.
