I’ve found the bold to be quite possible the most pompous act that anyone does on this board. Absolutely zero reason to do that whenever it’s been done, and it’s a classic #’s move.

Maybe he was a newspaper editor back in the day who just can’t help himself from pointing out spelling or grammatical errors.

Grammatical errors, I usually let be. I should not be the one to cast the first grammar stone, or any stone for that matter. If the intent is discernible, I let it go.

But in the bilingual world in which I was brought up and in which I worked, I was taught early to respect people's names, both in speaking and in in spelling. My grandmother had a neighbor named Sotomayor. So I know how to pronounce it correctly. My sister's second husband was Vazquez - not Vasquez. I was careful of the difference, especially when I met her in-laws from Mexico City. Manners are important. No wonder Americans have the reputation abroad that they are arrogant.

Misspellings of names happen, and out of respect should be corrected ASAP, not made light of. I am sure President Byden and VP Hariss would agree.
