Indeed. In so many races it seems that one party couldn't possibly nominate a worse candidate than the other -- and then they do just that.

Co-sign. It has been a race to the bottom for R's and D's of late.

I'm pretty convinced that ranked choice voting in the primaries would help reduce this outcome in general, especially with more crowded primaries.

In recent history, I think you would have seen Trump lose to a more mainstream Republican. I don't think it would have saved us from Biden (unless one thinks Biden wouldn't have been nominated if Trump wasn't also nominated).
