I guess my use of A$M has made this discussion go a wrong way. I only chose them because by reputation they are the most conservative college in Texas.

My best friend was a Aggie, who played left guard in the Cotton Bowl. My lawyer is an Aggie, and my GF's son is an Aggie. The only thing those three have in common other than their Aggie-ness is that they all are/were conservatives. Small sample size, but...

I was trying to draw a contrast between a liberal school and a conservative one. For the left, Berkeley was an easy choice. Much harder to find a comparable school on the right.

Never said a thing about engineering.

Anecdote:

In grad school, we were standing in the hall on a short break from a three hour class. I started telling an Aggie joke, and one little fireplug type guy puffed up and said "Sir, I will have you know I am a graduate of Texas A & M." Without missing a beat, I said "That's OK, you'll probably understand it anyway" and continued. I thought he might hit me if I made eye contact.

Back to the topic at hand:

Is it unfair to carry a sign that says "management unfair" when some members of management might be very nice, fair people?

Is it unfair to say all white people are racist, when some white people might not be racist at all?

Seems very similar to the Defund the Police movement - don't like what they do, don't hire them.

I think Baylor is likely to be more conservative than A&M. And I think there are probably smaller schools that skew more conservative (something tells me that Abilene Christian University may be more conservative). Your use of A&M didn't derail the conversation, it actually made a critical point, but one I don't think you meant to.

There are two good points you make: schools that have reputations for being liberal or conservative havens often aren't as intensely political as one thinks, and, those reputations aren't really useful when it comes to evaluating individual students, especially for hiring purposes. Your small sample size of 3 is rather hilarious when you think about the size of the current A&M population, let alone the population of all graduates.

There are great examples of universities that pride themselves on their conservative bonafides - fewer than those that similarly pride themselves on their liberal bonafides, though.
