Isn't that their job that they are trained to do?

Their job is to care for the patient and apply the medical treatment they think is most appropriate. In some states, they may believe an abortion is the most appropriate treatment, get agreement from the mother, and not be able to treat the mother because the situation is not deemed to be life threatening at that moment. Or if they deem it is life threatening, someone can come behind and sue them for breaking the law.
