Well, we have discussed monitoring people's social media postings as a way to limit mass shooters. I wonder what Ham thinks about actually tying this to an application for gun ownership. It would seem to be a controversial process of ruling what is and what isn't OK. It does seem somewhat Big Brother-ish...

As would probably happen with 4chan/8chan, potential shooters would probably just learn to "keep their mouths shut" on social media.

Or at least on the accounts that they 'handed over'. This is sort of like telling gun owners that we're going to come search their house... so they move their guns to the garage.

The whole point of what I'm describing is that you don't tell them what you're looking at... You use computers to scan every possible wavelength for keywords... then patterns... etc... and then if there is 'probable cause' (i.e. they fit the sort of profile that the FBI would use... you have a person look at it... and if there is now some credible concern, you reach out to them for counseling and/or start investigating them.... so they still don't even really know what it was that they said or did to trigger you... because at least that part of it wouldn't be used for any sort of prosecution unless and until they commit a 'hard' crime..... which is not 'terroristic threats' or 'hate speech'. You're trying to stop murders.

Potential or actual criminals do find ways around law enforcement.

So are we no longer scouring the internet for terrorists and their activities?? If we're not, fine... I'm old school and they've moved on to something else... and we should look at 'whatever that is'..
