This whole brouhaha seems to me to be a microcosm of the left/right attitudes toward the Supreme Court and what they want SCOTUS to do regarding the US Constitution.

The right wants it interpreted by the words in the document and the intent of the authors.

The left wants it interpreted according the needs of the moment, and sees any other interpretation as a failure for the Justices to do their duty.

Thus the characterization of the six justices who use the words of the document rather than the desires of a political party as extremists.

The intent was to to have a well equipped militia. Had any of the weapons that 93 is worried about, or the larger magazines, been available the founders would certainly have been not only OK with them, but positively in favor of them.

Also, I would like to say that ALL weapons are assault weapons. That is the nature of using a weapon - to assault somebody or something, and it doesn't matter if the weapon is a knife, fork, or spoon - if used as a weapon it is an assault weapon. If I once again need to defend myself with my single shot .22, it will be an assault weapon. If I instead use my chain saw, it will be an assault weapon. When the redcoats and Continentals were shooting at each other with muzzle loaders, were they not assaulting each other?
