Had a discussion with a Female Ob/Gyn that I was sitting next to on the stationary bikes. Interesting timing.

She reports that this is a huge issue. For instance, there are apparently all sorts of ectopic pregnancies that are not strictly "normal ectopics". She mentioned C-section ectopics. I'm assuming these are located on a C-section scar? Nobody know what to do with those. These may be associated with a heartbeart. She says that her colleagues are scared to manage some of these issues and that there is tons of discussion of "10-20 years in prison". She says that women are already dying in states with these restrictions because doctors are sitting around waiting for women to be obviously unstable (even when the doctor knew that she was going to become unstable) because there was hesitation in bringing a woman not obviously unstable to the operating room.

She mentioned having recently trained in Ohio and a "24-hour rule" there where doctors were sitting around waiting for the 24 hours to pass before they managed patients with significant bleeding. Not sure about the specifics of this rule.

She also mentioned that with these rules doctors aren't going to be well-trained on certain procedures. She said that doing a 20-week abortion is not an easy procedure and if nobody is doing those any more then when a woman needs one to save her life people will not be well-trained to handle these.

She was pretty passionate about it and was getting upset about the issue as she discussed it. She made it sound like there were similar concerns with most of her peers.

OK... sorry if this is sort of flight of idea-ish. Wanted to get down the key points while it is fresh.

Clearly this is not as simple for these docs as "just follow standard of care and document well". She also mentioned that most of her practice is gyn and that she feels sorry for those docs who do lots of obstetrics.
