I think the source is pro-abortion, but if the stats are collected and interpreted fairly...

We hear a lot about the health of the mother. #16 says 12% mentioned health-related issues that impacted their pregnancies. But these are necessarily dire health related issues. It could be anything from fatigue to gestational diabetes to ectopic pregnancy.

#45 says 2 percent of pregnancies in the US are ectopic.

#10-#17 show that most abortions are for reasons other than rape/health. Most are for social issues such as career or readiness issues.

None of these are surprising to me (and I assume to everybody).

Significant health-related issues to the mother certainly must be pretty rare... but they happen and there should (IMO) be mechanisms in place when they do happen.

2% of all pregnancies is probably a heck of a lot of pregnancies. Likely greater than 100,000 per year.

I believe the number of total pregnancies is somewhere in the link.

I assume that the vast majority of the women who have ectopic pregnancies will have them handled by their ob-gyn, not the neighborhood abortion clinic. Just like in 1972.

Why does the location of care matter? If the type of care needed is an abortion, and that is not legal except in rare circumstances, an OBGYN is equally as impacted as an abortion care provider.

And if a state is hostile towards doctors performing abortions, and does not make it clear that providing the service to manage an ectopic pregnancy is legal, that could be problematic for maternal health.

If I need life-saving surgery, I am not going down to the Urgent Care Center, even if it is free there.

I agree 100% that even states with the tightest abortion bans should make exception for this kind of surgery. But I made the point, I thought, that this kind of surgery was not banned even when abortions were (1972).
